Zack Addy

Name: Zack Addy
Common Species Name: Skimmer Dragonfly
Latin Name: Anisoptera Libellulidae
Location Found: City Park Lagoon

Zack is a neat little critter we pulled out of the lagoon in City Park. There are about 156 species of Skimmer Dragonflies spread all throughout North America. They generally prefer warm shallow waters and are commonly found at the edges of the lakes and ponds they live in. Zack and his relatives are also some of the few aquatic insects that can tolerate some salinity. Though they mostly prefer freshwater, like the lagoon that was home to Zack, skimmer dragonflies are also found in some brackish habitats. This species is very tolerant of environmental stresses. Some can tolerate very low levels of dissolved oxygen and other pollutants like livestock runoff.

How Zack got his name: I'm a huge fan of the TV show Bones. Dr. Addy was one of my favorite assistants and he was also the first. Hence the Skimmer Dragonfly Zack Addy. My first specimen, my first favorite.
